Traditional American Karate Academy

About Us

Traditional American Karate provides a good system of martial arts suitable for the American way of life and philosophy. TAK emphasizes the development of attitude as well as knowledge and skill.

In TAK, the objective is not to teach a certain defense for a certain attack, but rather to help students develop 'intuition' in which they are free from preconceived actions. To achieve this, Traditional American Karate School is organized into formal kata, situational self-defense techniques, sparring techniques, and many hand, foot and body change techniques. We also include Oriental weaponry.

Teaching Philosophy

In Traditional American Karate, we believe that karate is KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, and ATTITUDE for the purpose of achieving personal development, self-mastery and self-defense.

We train for:

PHYSICAL HEALTH, which includes the development of:

  • greater strength
  • greater flexibility
  • better balance and coordination
  • quickness of physical and mental reflexes.

MENTAL HEALTH, which includes the development of the following attitudinal characteristics:

  • self-esteem
  • courtesy
  • respect for self and others
  • self-discipline
  • self-confidence

People learn in a positive environment.  Consequently our teaching staff will always strive to be positive in their approaches to students.  We will be firm, yet kind in our dealing with students and our goal is for all of our instruction sessions to end with the students not only feeling that they have learned something new or some new application of old knowledge, but for them to come away feeling better about themselves as martial artists and as persons.  This will be the result of our positive, firm and kind response to them.
